I wrote my latest in NaNoWriMo, and it worked out well .. but I did somethings that rather cut the community out of it. First, I never attended any of the write-ins. Maybe would have been fun, but the reality was that if I could get time away from other crap to be able to devote to writing, I just sat and wrote instead. Second, I only visited my local forum. We had a War of Words on with neighbors, and there was a cute page showing the word widgets, but there was so *little* happening on the forums, it really wasn't worth it. Third, I collected a couple of "writing buddies" and watching them helped. Fourth, and probably MOST important, I had some readers who read each chapter as it spooled out. I have them all the time, not just for NaNoWriMo and I find that those people .. constantly IM'ng me about "where's the next chapter? what happens next?" .. were the ones that got me far enough into the book to gain some momentum. Keep the faith, baby! Try again next year and look me up as a writing buddy! Don’t give up on it, Drew.
